Judiciary Communications, Committee Room 1, House of Parliament, 19th December, 2024: Accompanied by the outgoing acting Chief Justice, Honourable Justice Nicholas Browne-Marke and other Justices of the superior Court of Judicature, His Lordship Justice Komba Kamanda has faced the Committee on Appointment and the Public Service.
During the interview, he used the occasion to outline his ambitious plans that will transform the Judiciary as an independent and impartial institution that will uphold the values of justice, integrity and the rule of law.
Asked to share his opinion on the Local Court, the proposed Chief Justice explained that the Local Courts were under the supervision of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
According to him, with the 2011 Local Courts Act, the administration of the Local Court has been moved to the Judiciary. He added that there is a need to have a sectoral meeting to address the bottleneck to make the Local Courts more effective and efficient.
The Leader of the Public Account Committee, Hon. Mathew Nyuma concluded by acknowledging the contributions of the outgoing acting Chief Justice Hon. Browne-Marke, to the justice sector with specific reference to the current Criminal Procedure Act, 2024.
The Public Account Committee comprises sixteen members, including Hon. Mathew Nyuma, Hon. Bashiru Siliki, Hon. Wuyata B. Songa, Hon. Abdul Kargbo and Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, amongst others.
